Vertical Open
The trick is very simple indeed. I use it as a warm up exercise and to calm down. For some people it is easier to do it from the position of Vertical Open than that of Horizontal. The risk to get cut is minimal and yet beginners are advised to wrap the blade with scotch. And here is the scheme of the trick:
1. Take the knife as is shown on the picture: with the safe handle inward holding the bite handle with four fingers:
2. Now turn the butterfly so that your three fingers held it underneath, the thumb held the safe blade from left side and the forefinger – from right.
3. Let go of the lower handle, so that it is free to move together with the blade and hold the safe blade at its sides:
4. With a forward movement of your hand flip the lower handle against the forefinger (or just against back of your hand if it’s more convenient):
5. Then drop down the bite handle with the blade while grabbing the safe handle from below leaving the thumb slightly above:
6. Now jerk your hand sharply upward simultaneously taking away the thumb. The two handles will join together and you’ll have a direct grasp of your knife with the blade turned inward:
This is it, nothing difficult. Usually it takes 10 minutes or slightly more to study it. For more detailed study it is recommended to watch Vertical Open video.
